Personalized charcuterie board from Woodland Hillside at Waneta Plaza in trail BC

Woodland Hillside’s wood products are carefully created to bring out the best in the wood we utilize and rescue. No two products will be the same as they are handcrafted from wood that has grown in its own unique way. To make sure your Woodland Hillside products last as long as possible, we recommend the following care instructions.

Serving Boards:

Woodland rescued wood serving boards should not be immersed in water. Clean with dishcloth and dry afterwards. Our Charcuterie boards are meant for serving on only. For this reason, we recommend that you use them to showcase your favorite appetizers and snacks but not use them for preparing food. Cutting into the coatings will leave marks and pieces of the coating could chip off. Our beautiful boards can also be used as a table centerpiece to create festive accents throughout the year. Our serving boards are coated with either water based or oil based polyurethane and then go through a curing process so there are food safe once that process is completed.

Crates and crate tops:

Our Signature Woodland Hillside gift crates bundled packages are made mostly from local rescued beetle kill trees and contain a selection of locally made artisan products. The wood is carefully milled and sanded to bring out the best grain and colours. Built to be last, the crates are strong enough to be mounted on a wall as decorative shelves. The crate lids are made to be used as a trivet and coated with Tung oil to withstand heat from hot objects. Trivets should not be put in an oven. Trivets are not food safe. Tung oil is a non-toxic product, once cured, but not recommended as a food safe surface. All crates come with an unfinished surface so the recipient can stain or paint them to match their own tastes. Crates can be attached to a wall by using a panhead screw on a wall stud.

Personalized Wood Products:

All our personalized wood products are coated to help them last and maintain their beauty. To clean them use a damp cloth but don’t immerse in water. If wood products of any kind are moved from one temperature extreme to another they may warp or crack so it is best to keep them in similar environments. You can enhance all our products by adding an extra coat of the same product used at time of purchase when needed. For example most of our personalized pieces are coated with Tung oil. You can add another coat whenever you feel your product needs it. Outdoor signs have a SPAR polyurethane coating. Many of our indoor signs have either Tung oil or a water or oil based polyurethane. Please feel free to contact us about any coating questions.

Rescued Wood Furniture:

All our furniture pieces are coated to last. We are excited to have these unique pieces out in the world! Our NEW finished slabs, ready for your choice of furniture piece, are coated with water or oil based polyurethane. To take care of them we recommend the following. It is best not to put hot pots or dishes directly on the coated wood surface without a trivet or coaster underneath. To clean use a damp cloth with soap and water and then dry off once you have cleaned the surfaces. Leaving water on the surfaces, for a long period of time, can damage the wood. Furniture pieces should be kept in temperatures that are fairly consistent. Moving wood furniture to varying degrees of cold or hot temperature can cause twisting. Our furniture is meant for indoor environments unless it is coated with an outdoor rated product.

Notes about all Woodland Hillside Products:

All of our products are handcrafted from rescued local wood. This means that the trees we use were already in the decay process. The beautiful colours and designs showcase our regions tree varieties. Each piece, we create, is different and unique with it’s own wood grain patterns. All wood is susceptible to twisting if it is moved from cold to hot environments or vice versa. For the best results keep your piece in fairly consistent temperatures. Coating the wood helps to maintain it. If we are making an outdoor product we recommend SPAR urethane to help with sun and water protection. For house signs it is best to have coating products put into any holes that are created for mounting purposes. You can further protect your sign, from damage, by using screws coated with an epoxy type product. Wood products with coatings may need to be re-coated at sometime in the future. We are happy to answer questions you may have about maintaining the coating on our pieces. Thank you! We hope you enjoy your rescued wood treasures!
